I restart my computer at around noon because its acting a bit wonky, and wouldn’t you know it, it was cause some Windows files were corrupt.  IT tells me to boot into safe mood and back up my stuff incase anything worse happens, sagely advice as you’ll see.  I take bout an hour to back everything up to my portable HD and lose a couple of precious files due to more HD errors that prevents me from copying them, sigh.

I run chkdsk (check disk) to try to repair the HD errors.  chkdsk tells me it’ll run on the next restart, and of course, it didn’t restart, it didn’t even get into windows at all anymore, not even safe mode; just a whole lot of nothing.  It makes me wonder how it even booted into safe mode before!

So that’s it, time to reformat the computer, but dum dum dum, dreaded Vista shall be installed.  I can’t say I’m impressed, but it hasn’t been all bad.  I’ll reserve judgement on this memory hog of an OS till later.  So I spend the rest of the afternoon, recompiling code, and reinstalling a bunch of programs (at least I have my backups).

Back home, I spend 2 hours getting Sympatico to work at home since my Dad is switching from Robbers Rogers.  This process in itself has already taken a week cause of equipment failure on Bell’s part, so it hasn’t even worked until today.  I finally activate the damn thing whilst connected to the laptop, but once I switch the connection to the router, its dead as a copse.  Damned router can’t get authenticate with the Bell AAA server.  I steal some neighbour’s wifi on my personal laptop just to save myself the time to switch the connection back and forth from Rogers and Bell and discover its some stupid error with Dlink routers and Sympatico, I couldn’t believe this…  So an hour later, I try all these stupid combinations of router settings until I get the right ones (and no, its not even connection settings, it’s completely unrelated router settings); and it turns out I had to leave the “Service Name” blank (this field shouldn’t have even done anything, its f’ing optional and is just meant to be a descriptive name) along with setting the router to use an NTP server to get the time.  Double-U Tee Eff???  Whatever, as long as it works…

Going to cross my fingers now that the PS3 can still play online now that its on Sympatico, at least I know of a solution for this one…

Rogers, you have certainly met my expectations for the iPhone. Your price plans suck.

I mean, what more is there to say that hasn’t already been said.  You are a part of an oligopoly that is out of control; there is no GSM competition in Canada and CRTC is impotent (but perhaps not as impotent as I once thought: CBC).

I ain’t fond of McCain by any measure, but even I understand he’s 180′ed on this issue from not supporting a repeal to being in favour of overturning the judgement for only 1 reason: votes. Meaning only 1 thing: there are voters who want Roe v. Wade overturned.

Apple software update was nagging me again recently so I did it just cause I needed to use iTunes recently and lo and behold, this is what I get after the update was complete. (Note the lovely description error.)

That’s fucking low Apple, this is not a software update by any means.

I’m not the first to talk bout it, I and many other people noticed it when it first started happening, see here, here, and here. I’m just surprised they were STILL trying to pull this shit.

Give it a rest Jobs, this shit does nothing but piss off your users.

Today has been an eventful day for my site.  In the span of 10 hours, I’ve managed to:

1. Delete my useless and defunct forum
2. Deleted the forum’s database
3. Realize my blog was using the same database as my forum (bad BAD danny!)
4. Emailed Dreamhost support about my problem
5. Get a response from Dreamhost to just click on the big MySQL Recycle Bin button (I’m fregen blind…)
6. Restored my deleted database
7. Exported my blog tables after having learned my lesson
8. Upgrade WordPress from 1.5 to 2.5
9. Get punished for my laziness in upgrading by having my blog completely busted; I can’t even log in as the administrator
10. Restore the backup of my blog
11. Drop my jaw in shock as the backup was just as broken (this I genuinely did not mess up on, the upgrade is an automated script and that fucked up the backup)
12. Create a new database and imported my blog tables (phew!)
13. Point my old blog to new database and login successfully (BOOYAH!  Hope is not lost!)
14. Install WP 2.5 as a new install with a new database
15. Manually SQL-fu the shit out of the old data to import into the new database
16. Discover all the counters are off after imports
17. Fix counter bugs and miscellaneous bugs
18. Write this post

This is the most I’ve worked on the blog in probably years.

Much more needs to be done, many plugins will need to be tried to replace my old ones that no longer work, but that’s for another day.  Me tired -_-

Its also Steak and Blowjob Day which makes March 14 the best day of the year hands down.
