So as some of you may know, I was rear-ended a while back. I have some choice words for the person whom rear ended me but I digress. The damage limited to the rear bumper and to be honest I wasn’t too upset about it, though I love my car very much I realized that the damage was done and there was no point in mourning it, especially since it can be easily replaced.

Today is the day Dad took the car in to the shop for me so I drove the van. Driving home after another late night in the office I began to feel excited at the prospect of what rental car awaits my return. 1:30 am, pulling up to my drive way, garage door rising to slowly reveal: thin tires (’Makes sense’ I thought as the car would be a compact which is within expectation; a silver round bumper (’hmmm intriguing, a Corolla?’); triangle like red-rear lights (’wait a minute, I’ve seen these lights before’); a chevy logo….; a cobalt…..

I literally laughed out loud at this point. I.. am… driving….a Chevy…Cobalt… AHHAHAHHAAHA, this is just too fregen funny. For those of you who are confused, sufficed to say I wouldn’t be caught dead in one but I just couldn’t help but appreciate the humour in it all. I’m actually rather excited about driving it now. It’s like an excuse to indulge my insanity and drive an American car. It’s almost as stupid as losing my mind and, I don’t know, buying a Crossfire for example; I mean I’d enjoy the insanity but wouldn’t be stupid enough to do it for any extended period of time. I’m really going to enjoy how wierd it’ll feel in this car. It’s just so… American.

To be fair, I’ve sat in a similar car before so I have a sense of what it will be like, it’s actually picked up some cues from its Japanese brothers so some of the design makes much more sense than other American cars I’ve sat in *cough*Caliber*cough*. The rental is like brand new, so bonus points there as well.

If I have time, I’ll update on the drive itself tomorrow :)

Till I get my Jetta back, I’ll be missing the lil things, like the beautiful sound the door makes as it closes; not too tin-ny like a light japanese door, and a more refined sound then a heavy american door slam.

This is too funny hahhhahaha.

The President has a responsibility to be true to the people who voted for him, and to put people in office who are sympathetic to his positions otherwise whats the point of having elections? -Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton

Jon’s response:

The President is only the President of the people who voted for him, apparently the other people can dip their balls in lava for all he cares.

I linked to the Ladder Theory today in a comment I made, so I’m invariably going to get flak for this so lets just get this out of the way: I do not endorse the Ladder Theory. If you can get past the chauvinism, it is acutally quite funny and obvoiusly not to be taken too seriously; and no, it does not apply to all women, I know very nice girls who actually care about what they say they care about.

Having said this, ladies: you won’t find a straight guy who doesn’t find some truth in the theory.

The foundations page reminded me of When Harry Met Sally…, which is a great movie and would love to watch again. Faking orgasms at a deli is just classic hahaha.

On another note:
We finally did partner’s dancing in salsa class today which was fun, its actually easier to dance with a partner, I have a much better sense of what we are suppose to do. :)

Ran into a pretty good article about Gardasil, the new HPV vaccine from Merck; and its critics. (Just a fair warning, The Nation is quite liberal so be aware of any biases)

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20070326/houppert

The part I found most interesting is the unlikely alliance between hard line abstinence Christian fundies with anti-corporate consumer rights activists. In particular, I found it funny that a right wing Rep Governor of Texas Rick Perry in an act of completely dumbfounding his Christian fundie constituents actually made a f***ing logical argument to bring this vaccine to women:

“While I understand the concerns expressed by some, I stand firmly on the side of protecting life. The HPV vaccine does not promote sex, it protects women’s health.” -Gov. of Texas Rick Perry

Couldn’t have said it better Rick, too bad your motives were less than noble:

The press discovered Perry’s ties to Merck: Not only did his former chief of staff now work as a lobbyist for Merck but the Governor had accepted $6,000 in campaign contributions from Merck’s political action committee.

Now I can’t blame Merck for trying to make money off of their product, but this is just a bit underhanded:

A nonprofit called Women in Government, comprising female state legislators, has been behind the push to make the vaccine compulsory…turns out Merck–whoops!–was a big WIG donor.

An interesting article, and made me realize this was a lot more complicated than I originally thought. I am all for the vaccine, but if rolling out the vaccine now means Merck will corner the market and start price gouging people then I’d have to say I am against rolling it out now. This quote sums it up best:

“Because Merck itself has pushed so hard to make the vaccine mandatory, there’s a bit of skepticism about industry’s motives.”

So when will this vaccine come to Canada?

You know all those things those random people say about the internet connecting people and all that? Well it happened to my parents in a big way today. They not only managed to skype with a relative, they also used the webcam *shock*. I have tried on and off to try to show them all the great things they can do with the computer and the internet, but I guess I am a poor salesmen. I could not show them that all these “connecting people” things was possible and that it was easy enough to be worth their while to take some time to learn how to use it. My uncle did manage to sell them on it and thus their inception into the world of webcam. I wonder why this didn’t happen sooner, I mean the mic and webcam was sitting infront of them ever since they’ve started using the computer; and it wasn’t like they have never seen me webcam before….was I unconvincing, or a poor instructor in my earlier demonstrations? Or was it perhaps they were more receptive of the idea having seen someone their age perform this feat. Maybe once they realized all my relatives were already doing it, they should finally join in. To see my mom talk to my relatives in Hong Kong with such delight made me realize this was what all those random people meant by “connecting people”.

On another note, taking advantage of Futureshop’s awesome return policy I returned my Logitech VX Revolution mouse simply because its just much cheaper now in other stores. Because Futureshop has such a nice return policy I decided to give them some of my money with the purchase of a wireless Gamecube controller, something I’ve been meaning to do so to use my Wii’s ability to play Gamecube games. Me thinks I will ask my coworker to borrow some; Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime Echos, and Resident Evil 4 are likely candidates. To borrow those however, will be a 2 day wait and in my eagerness to try out my new controller I decided it was time to break my Wii virtual console cherry with the acquisition of:

Joy. :)

EDIT: I DON’T WANT ONE, I JUST SAID IT LOOKS NICE!

If you’d be so kind, please leave a comment on what you thought about this:

This bracelet is for guys as its under the “gifts for him” section and almost everyone I show this to says it looks “gay”. I thought it looks rather nice, not that I’d buy one seeing as how its $570.

I bought snacks for the office over the weekend, something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now and its finally done, one task marked as complete in my list of many. My bounty consists of: 1 tin of Peanut Wafers, 6 Vitasoy Soy Drink (White), 6 Vitasoy Malt Soy Drink (Brown), 6 Vita Lemon Tea Drink, Pocky original, Pocky for Men, and a special treat Pocky Moose (this one was pricey 2.59 @ for 3 packs of 4 sticks).

I’ve almost eaten nothing from my new stash… All day long I open my drawer, look at my tasty loot, pause a bit, then close the drawer again. One time I even worked myself up to opening the box of Pocky Moose, only to take a look at the 3 shinny golden pouches and close the box again… What the heck is wrong with me? LOL I guess I feel like saving it for a special occasion or something, but I think part of it is to test how long I can deny myself and see how strong I can be.

I did however open the Peanut Wafers as I wanted to share it with others. Tasty :)
